Team News: Sunday 18th May, saw the Lions travel to Castle Combe for the final game of the season. Although they had already won the league they wanted to end the season on a high with an undefeated campaign. The game started off really slow with neither team making any telling breaks, with the half ending with no score. The second half started off with several good runs by the Amesbury Lions, but 5 minutes into the half Castle Combe scored with the Amesbury keeper being outdone by an evil bobble just in front of his goal. After the restart Castle Combe tried to push their advantage with several good efforts at the amesbury goal but were denied by great saves from the Amesbury keeper. With 10 minutes to go Amesbury got the break that they needed when they were awarded a corner which was whipped in and ended up in the back of the net. The next 10 minutes were nail biting with each team making several good runs, but on the last kick of the game Amesbury drove the ball into the penalty area and the ball took another nasty bobble and ended up in the Castle Combe goal giving Amesbury a 2 -1 victory. WELL DONE to everyone and good luck next season. |
